Is the Flamingo Float Real or AI? Can You Fall Off an Infinity Pool?

The flamingo float clips look close enough to real that "AI or real?" has become one of the first questions people ask. The honest answer depends on the clip. Some are labelled AI, and some are not labelled at all. Every video made on this site is AI generated. We add no watermark to exported videos.

Are infinity pool videos real?

Many of the dramatic ones are not. In June 2026 the fact checkers at Lead Stories looked at viral clips of rooftop pools collapsing and people going over the edge. They found that many were made with AI, and they found no credible reports of the wave of deaths those clips implied. A pool design expert they spoke to said the clips do not match how these pools are built.

So treat any clip of a pool breaking apart or a float sailing off a tower as a likely fake until a credible news source says otherwise.

Can you fall off an infinity pool?

Usually not in the way these clips show. The vanishing edge is an optical effect. Marina Bay Sands, home to one of the best-known rooftop pools, says swimmers who reach the edge simply meet a wall.

Water flows over that wall into a catch basin below it, and there is normally a ledge or barrier beyond that. Building rules can also require protection against falls. New Zealand guidance, for example, covers infinity pools with a drop of more than 1.2 metres.

Can you float off an infinity pool?

Not in the way the clips show. The expert in the Lead Stories piece dismissed the idea of people floating over the top of the edge, even on a raft. The water going over the edge is a thin layer, and the wall and the structure around it are still there.

Has anyone ever fallen off an infinity pool?

Real accidents do happen, but they look nothing like the clips. In 2025 a cruise passenger went over the edge of a ship's infinity pool after reaching for lost sunglasses. In 2022 a pool wall collapsed at a Caribbean resort and injured guests. Rules differ by country and by pool, so follow the rules wherever you swim, and stay away from the edge.

How to spot a fake pool video

  • The water or the float behaves strangely at the edge, with no wall or basin in view.
  • Faces, hands or text change between frames.
  • The clip has a watermark from an AI video tool, or an AI label in the caption.
  • No credible news outlet reports the event.

Make the harmless version

The flamingo float trend works because nobody gets hurt: a hand pushes the float back and the joke lands. If you want to join in, add one photo and read how the trend works. Follow the publishing platform's AI content disclosure rules, and never try this on a real pool.
